Globe Telecom has announced that it has completed the deployment of a new series of antennas that efficiently enables the acceleration of 4G and the evolution of 5G technology – a move that aims to enhance the company’s 4G and 5G networks and improve energy efficiency.
Given Globe’s rapid 4G/5G rollout, the latest solution will be essential for a pervasive 4G/5G experience. The antenna utilizes “enhanced multi-array modules, ultra-high integration architecture, and full-band technology.”
Moreover, its ultra-resolution beam technology offers high-precision beamforming for improved Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) performance and a 15% increase in network capacity. Multiple transmitters and receivers are employed by MIMO for simultaneous data transfer.
The powerful configuration also enables simplified deployment in a single antenna with 30 percent greater efficiency, an industry first. Since the antenna is smaller than the traditional design, installation is facilitated and accelerated even at cell sites with limited space.
However, the technology is not limited to producing smaller and lighter antenna “boxes.” The integrated products incorporate multiple frequency bands and support multiple generations of cellular technologies, including 5G.
Additionally, the technology reduces feed loss and increases energy efficiency by 10 to 15%. Through antenna development and power consumption innovation, Globe is able to maximize energy efficiencies and reduce its electricity consumption.
Joel Agustin, SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering at Globe’s Network Technical Group, shared that “the antenna is important for a network to have greater capacity, accelerate site deployment, have broader and deeper coverage, and achieve a low carbon footprint.”
This year, Globe allocated PHP 89 billion in capital expenditures for the rollout of more 5G sites and in-building solutions, the upgrade of cell towers to 4G LTE, the addition of more 4G cell sites, and the installation of fiber to the homes.
